LAHORE: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday banned the construction of housing societies on Pakistan Railways’ land, while taking Royal Palm Golf and Country Club into judicial custody and ordered immediate seizers of its record.
A three member bench of the top court, headed by Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar heard a suo motu case pertaining to the lease of Pakistan railways land at casual prices at the Lahore registry.
The Superior court dissolved the administration of Royal Palm Club and appointed the accounting firm Ferguson & Company to seize all records immediately and conduct a scientific audit.
Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar also ordered that land belonging to Pakistan Railways shall not be leased more than three years period.
Later addressing a Press, Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said that the railways land would only be given on a three year lease only on merit basis and asked the railway administration to make a mechanism for future.
